Will I have a telephone to use in my room?
Phones
are located in each student’s dorm room. When contacting you, your
family and friends should call (715) 324-6900. Please give parents and
friends your room extension number; they will need it to reach you.
Calls should not be received after 10:30 p.m. on Sunday through
Thursday or after 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. After these times,
all dorm room phones are turned off, and incoming calls are transferred
to the Welcome Center. Security workers answer incoming emergency
calls.
What do I do if I get sick?
The
Northland Health Center functions as an on-campus medical facility.
During the weekly office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., registered nurses
are available to provide preventative health care as well as the
treatment of illness and injury. The nurse’s station furnishes
nonprescription medicine and first-aid supplies. Should a student need
the attention of a medical doctor, Health Center personnel schedule the
appointment and aid the student in securing transportation to and from
the doctor’s office or hospital. Doctors’ appointments are the
financial responsibility of each student. In addition, a nurse remains
on call through the evenings and weekends to handle any after-hour
emergencies.
For serious illness or accident, Health Center
personnel arrange treatment with the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital
in Iron Mountain, Michigan (about a half hour north of campus).
Northland Health Center staff can be reached by calling (715) 324-6900, ext. 5300.
How much will it cost to do my laundry?
Laundry
costs 50 cents per dryer load and $1 per wash load. Coin-operated
laundry facilities are located in the men’s and women’s dormitories.
Machines for converting currency into change are available in each
location. Clothes that need to be dry-cleaned may be taken to the
Business Office. Payment is made at the time of drop-off.
Is there a shuttle to the Green Bay airport?
If
your arrival plans include flying or arriving by bus, travel
arrangements can be made to Green Bay, Wisconsin, which serves major
airlines. The campus is located approximately 90 minutes north of Green
Bay, Wisconsin. If you will need transportation from the airport to
campus, please contact the Student Life Office at (715) 324-6900, ext.
6000.

Visit our Virtual Campus Tour page.
May freshmen bring cars on campus?
Yes;
however, students must pay a registration fee each year and provide
proof of insurance. The vehicle registration fee is $30 per year.
How do I get to town if I don’t have a car?
Students are usually willing to take other students with them when they go to town.
May I bring a computer?
Because
many classes require typed assignments, a computer is necessary.
Northland provides two computer labs for student use during the
semester. There is no additional charge for using the labs so you don't
have to have your own computer, but it sure is nice. Each student
receives an e-mail account, filtered Internet access, and 15 MB of disk
storage in the computer labs. Filtered wireless internet access is now
available in all buildings including the dorms. The students love it
and you will too.
What should I pack?
Dormitory
rooms are furnished with bunk beds, dressers, desks, bookshelves, and
chairs. Students must bring their own bedding. A guide to bedding is
two blankets, two sets of standard-size twin sheets, a pillow,
pillowcases, and a bedspread. Electric blankets are not permitted.
Other room items you will need include cups, towels, an iron, and an
ironing board. Electrical appliances permitted in dorm rooms include
razors, desk lamps, clocks, hair dryers, coffee makers, small
refrigerators (for a nominal charge), typewriters, computers, and
printers. TVs are provided in the dorm lobby and other places on
campus, please don't bring your own. Remember, other needed items can
be sent to you from home at a future date.
When I have a problem, to whom should I go for counseling?
Faculty
and staff are always available for student counseling. Each student is
also assigned a faculty "Mom" and/or "Dad" who can provide
encouragement and counsel.
Where will I go to church?
All
students are required to attend a local church. There are a number of
great churches to choose from. God will lead you to the right one as
you seek his will about where to go and where to serve while you are
attending NBBC.
If I play a musical instrument, should I bring it?
Yes,
students with instrumental skills find many opportunities to use their
skills in the pep band, societies, and the Concert Orchestra. Because
space is limited in the dorms, large instruments may not be stored in
the dorm rooms unless they can be easily stored under the bed.
