What do I do if I get sick?

The Northland Health Center functions as an on-campus medical facility. During the weekly office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., registered nurses are available to provide preventative health care as well as the treatment of illness and injury. The nurse’s station furnishes nonprescription medicine and first-aid supplies. Should a student need the attention of a medical doctor, Health Center personnel schedule the appointment and aid the student in securing transportation to and from the doctor’s office or hospital. Doctors’ appointments are the financial responsibility of each student. In addition, a nurse remains on call through the evenings and weekends to handle any after-hour emergencies.

For serious illness or accident, Health Center personnel arrange treatment with the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Michigan (about a half hour north of campus).
