"By
God's grace I was saved in 1974 at the age of 34 years of age. I was
born and raised in a strong Catholic family and had basically lived my
life in ignorance of who God really was and what His Word said. I had
never read more than one or two verses in the Bible.
In 1984 my husband died at the age of 47 of a heart attack. He was saved a few short weeks before he died.
In
1988, at the age of 48, I enrolled in Northland Baptist Bible College
and graduated in 1990 with a two-year secretarial degree. I was invited
to remain there as a staff member and for six years worked in the
Public Relations-Sports Department. I enjoyed my job very much but knew
shortly after graduation that the Lord wanted me on the mission field.
For four years I sought to know where He wanted me, and in the summer
of 1994 He clearly showed me the field of México was His choice for me.
Almost every Saturday and Sunday after that I was on the road seeking
support, and in February of 1996 I arrived in México.
My first
challenge was the language. Everyone spoke Spanish, and I spoke
English! What a trial that was, but God gave the victory and He
continues to help me in all my needs.
I am principally involved
with the college ministry. I am the Dean of Women and am responsible
for the grading system as well as the administrative office. When I
arrived there were 12 students, and two years later we had our first
graduation with six students. We have now graduated 129 students with
98 of them in full-time ministry for the Lord here in Mexico and in
other parts of the world.
I am also involved in our church
planting ministry in the little towns around San Luis. I have worked
with this ministry since my second year here and enjoy it very much. We
began Sunday Services in the village of Villa Hidalgo on November 5,
2006 and have had a steady attendance of between 15 and 42 people each
Sunday.
I am very grateful the Lord has allowed me to serve Him
on the mission field. Thank you so much for this opportunity to share
His work here in México with you who will read or hear of this
testimony. May He bless you and use your life for His glory."

"After
graduating from NBBC in 1991, I served on staff for 6 years at
Northland, during the college year as Student Activities Director and
during the summer as Program Coordinator for Northland Camp. During
that time, God gave us 2 wonderful boys, Cameron in 1994, and Clayton
in 1997. The ministry relationships we developed in these years are
still very precious to us!
In late summer of 1997, Independent
Baptist Church of Bolingbrook, IL called me to be Youth Pastor. For
just over 3 years we served the Lord at IBC. What an encouraging time
of spiritual growth and ministry for our family!
For the last 6
years I have been the Youth Pastor at Falls Road Baptist Church in
Rocky Mount, NC. The joy of ministry for me is teaching and preaching
God's Word to young people, and discipling their hearts to love God,
serve others, and make more disciples themselves.
God has truly been too good to us through the years! We praise Him for what He has done in our family and in our ministry!
I owe my ministry philosophy to my years at Northland.
Following
are a few (not all) specifics that were ingrained in me that have
helped me 'stay the course' for the last 15 years in ministry.
1. It's not what you DO, but rather who you ARE that matters to God.
2. Ministry is not a list of tasks to accomplish. It is a life to live touching other lives for eternity (discipleship).
3.
Who I am in my heart (inner man) is who I really am no matter how
successful I am on the outside or what I look like to other people!
4.
I must keep my spiritual disciplines in priority (devotions, prayer,
Scripture memory, etc.) in order to be growing in the Lord!
5. Honesty, Obedience, Wisdom, and Service are a daily challenge that yield eternal fruit.
6.
A Servant's Heart must be real in your own home with your own family
before it is truly real with the people to whom you minister!
7. Don't love the ministry. Love the Master! (Dr. Ollila)"
